Janni Cox is a Brisbane based artist who recently completed Honours in Fine Art at Queensland University of Technology in 2017. As both an artist and skateboarder, he explores the creative potential of skateboarding. Rather than dealing with skateboarding as a subject or subculture in contemporary art, he explores his personal creative processes involved in skateboarding. Specifically, he explores how skateboarding’s improvisational and spatially investigative methods can offer unique ways to reconsider and reimagine the creative potential of urban space and found objects. With this approach, he uses improvised performance tactics, resulting in process-orientated video installations and sculptural assemblages formed and presented within the gallery and public spaces.
