About the Gallery
The main exhibition space is a set of nineteen mailboxes measuring 46 x 286 x 14cm. All boxes have glass fronts and LED lights. Seventeen of the boxes each measure 23 x 12.5 x 12cm & the two boxes near the foyer entrance each measure 20 x 12 x 12cm (dimensions are approximate as each box varies slightly.) The space has terrazzo floors a plasterboard wall which is partially tiled. Mailbox is supported by and operates in collaboration with 141-143 Flinders Lane.
There are no restrictions in terms of material or theme – and experimental and innovative conceptual approaches to the site are sought. The area above the mailboxes may also be used- applications engaging with the space outside of the mailboxes, utilising the surrounding wall and performance works are highly encouraged. Unfortunately there are no accessible power points- so unless you have a creative idea for showing video/sound work we have no available facilities, we are happy to discuss this with you further.
Exhibiting at Mailbox is FREE.
Any enquiries regarding the sale of exhibited art work are directed to the artist and no commission is taken.
Exhibiting artists are provided with:
•Exhibition promotion including-an event on the Mailbox Facebook page, a listing in Art Guide, email invitations to the mailbox mailing list and promotion of exhibitions on art listing sites.
•A month long exhibition– this includes a one week installation/de-installation period.
•Documentation of artwork.
Please Note-Mailbox takes no responsibility for the damage or theft of the artist’s work or property held in the space. There are security measures in place as each mailbox is locked with a key. The foyer is open Mon/Fri 8am-6pm Sat 10am-5pm.
