An exhibition by Sophia Domagala (Berlin)
“It’s exciting to discover the work, instead of knowing everything before. I don’t want to know anything, but once I get started, the parts come closer together as a perpetual scattering and everything begins to make sense”
WHAT’S IN YOU FOR YOU AND WHOSE IN YOU FOR HIMSELF? is a site based drawing installation that utilizes the exhibition space as an experimental studio space. The outcome of the project is not predetermined but focuses on process-based, generative and open-ended possibilities. The art emerges in the gallery space during the time of its making. The work listens to itself, to which the artist listens and follows into a re-orientated path of possibilities.
The interpretation is not in the mark, the gesture is eventful, it is its own thing in its moment hanging onto the outer skin of inner thought.
Sophia Domagala is a Berlin based artist studying fine arts at the Hochschule der Kuenste Braunschweig. Domagala has exhibited work in the 2010 Berliner Kunstsalon, at the Bonner Kunstverein and the Städtische Galerie Delmenhorst. This is her first exhibition in Australia.
inbetweenspaces is Metro Arts 2010 ARI-In-Residence, creating projects across a range of spaces including Studio 3.10 Metro Arts. As a one year experiment, inbetweenspaces is running an experimental gallery program to facilitate new experimental, trans-disciplinary and collaborative exhibition outcomes. Differing from conventional programs this exhibition model follows transitory connections between creative practitioners and projects so new experimental artworks emerge, collide and interact.
This exhibition is supported by Metro Arts, inbetweenspaces and of ten projects.
