As architects and designers turn away from globalised spectacular forms in favour of more nuanced and responsive approaches to place, ‘contemporary vernacular’ has become a fashionable, yet contested, term. Does it mean modern interpretations of traditional building techniques or simply using local materials and approaches? How might it be applied in Queensland?
