WHEN : 30th June - 26th July
WHERE : Brisbane Powerhouse
Sand of the Earth is a selection of paintings developed by Elisa Jane Carmichael that represent the many grains of sand and ochres from the sacred land of Quandamooka Country – North Stradbroke Island.
Many grains of sand form the land we walk on. Grains of sand connect and mould into other surfaces of nature. The colours of sand grains change from sunlight, salt water and rain. As a Quandamooka artist, from Minjerribah – the second largest sand island in the world – Elisa’s art explores the beauty of nature and the surrounding environment, drawing inspiration from her cultural identity and heritage.
Sand of the Earth is part of the 2015 NAIDOC Week celebrations, Sun 05–Sun 12 July.
Please join us to celebrate the opening night of Sand of the Earth on Wed 8 July in the Mosquito Foyer, 6-9pm.
