K9 – (PROTOTYPES)

WHEN : 28th Oct 6.00 – 9.00pm
WHERE : SHØØTING GALLERY 105 BOWEN STREET, SPRING HILL (LOOK FOR THE DUCK UP THE ALLEY).

BRISBANEBASED SCULPTOR, CEZARY STULGIS USES K9 – (PROTOTYPES), A NEW SERIES OF SCULPTURE WORKS, TO INVESTIGATE THE PARADOXES IN HOW HUMANS SEE ANIMALS. SUBJECTED TO HUMAN AUTHORITY, WE MAINTAIN A NOSTALGIC LONGING TO BE AS WILD AND FREE AS THEY ARE.

USING THE CULTURAL MARGINALIZATION OF ANIMALS GENERALLY, AND THE DOG (“MAN’S BEST FRIEND”) SPECIFICALLY, STULGIS RAISES QUESTIONS AND DRAWS SIMILARITIES BETWEEN HUMAN AND ANIMAL BEHAVIOR. BUILDING ON PREVIOUS WORK THAT HAS EXPLORED THIS CONCEPT, K9 – (PROTOTYPES) IS A MIRROR ON OUR OWN REPRESSED DESIRE TO BECOME NATURAL ONCE MORE.
