Stephen Russell : Torpor Audit

WHEN : 31st Oct – 14th Nov / Opening 1st Nov, 6:00pm
WHERE : A-CH Gallery, 75 Vulture St, West End

Stephen Russell presents new work that further explores his interest in the limits and meaning of the work of art under the contemporary conditions of commodification, digitisation, and distribution.

For Torpor Audit, Stephen Russell explores the potential of the double identity of works of art – emphasising the generative potential, but also the competing and often contradictory interests and meanings at play. By utilising design, architectural intervention, and traditional forms, Russell seeks to highlight the way that objects and images operate within a matrix of confluent social, technological, and political effects.

Stephen Russell holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours from QUT and is a founding Co-Director of the Artist Run Initiative Accidentally Annie Street Space. Stephen has exhibited his work in Brisbane and nationally at Boxcopy, QUT Art Museum, Metro Arts, and as part of the 2012 Next Wave Festival in Melbourne. In 2013 he Co-Curated the visual arts program of the Brisbane Emerging Art Festival and most recently showed new work as part of QARI at the Sydney Contemporary Art fair.
