GALLERY 1 – Conjure
ZOE PORTER – In collaboration with Eric Rossi and Olivia Porter (opening performance)
Conjure is part performance, part musical/sound arrangements and part exhibition. The exhibition will consist of the residue that results from a collaborative performance which incorporates sound using home made instruments created from a range of found objects and materials. The work oscillates between the drawn image, pe…rformance, sound, projection and theatre, drawing on surreal and dream like states.
GALLERY 2 – A
ANITA HOLTSCLAW
Constructs of female gendered identity and narrative are explored within A through the re-performance of cinematic devices. This re-performance attempts to address notions of spectatorship, specifically the idea of women serving to halt the narrative within specific filmic genres. Additionally the work looks at the role of the artist/auteur and what it means when it is a female rather than a male gaze that is writing, directing and filming the work. A aims to explore the spaces that exist between the gallery and the cinema, in an effort to represent notions of femininity that exist between and throughout the varied spaces of film and art.
GALLERY 3 – Each Action Equal
Curated by Catherine Connolly
BROWN COUNCIL, CATHERINE CONNOLLY, KEL GLAISER & LARESA KOLSLOFF
This exhibition gathers humorous and/ or absurd performative gestures that communicate a variety of deeper concerns: the role of the gendered body in art, feminine relation to Modernism, the gendering of gestures and concern for how one should perform in film and art making. Featuring works by female artists utilising a combination of humour, the body and performative aspects through a variety of gestures from sitting on a power sander to quite literally inserting oneself into Modernism. These works share the desire to look at the impulse to communicate, what these awkward gestures may mean, the potential of humour as an artistic and feminist strategy, and how the gendered body is used in a creative context.

MEAGAN STREADER
Meagan Streader is an emerging artist whose practice focuses on a contemplative system of documentation, creation and abstraction within a range of different media, from oil-stick paint, photography and print media, to more recent sculptural installations and video and sound art. Through this exhibition Streader will work with the material qualities of printed tissue paper, and the progression of these properties through an interaction with light and the surrounding space. By abstracting the key elements of the material, Streader’s work moulds to the environment fostering the creation and development of the piece as an ephemeral organism.
