Mitchell Fine Art

Mitchell Fine Art presents a display of bold minimalist artworks from the Kimberley region of North Western Australia. Depictions of ancient sites and stories of country are portrayed through expanses of ochre colour, thickly applied with tempered precision.

The use of ochre is deeply embedded in the traditional cultural expression for these Kimberley Artists. Originally used for body painting, ceremonial rituals & as a paint for artefacts & message diagrams these iron based pigments have been used by Aboriginal people for millennia.

Artists on display include Freddy Timms, Tommy Carroll, Charlene Carrington and Rusty Peters.
