Deadline:

Institute of Modern Art

Join us on the final day of Tyza Stewart’s residency in The Green Room at the IMA. Reflecting on the residency, Tyza Stewart will be in conversation with IMA Executive Directors Aileen Burns & Johan Lundh, at 3pm. This project builds on the artist’s ongoing exploration of non-binary gender identities through self-portraiture.

After a month of working in the gallery space, Stewart’s new body of work will be on view in its entirety. Rather than the traditional opening event to mark the commencement of the exhibition, this closing event reflects the show-in-reverse format of the project.

In addition to this closing event, there will be a number of oppurtunities to view Tyza working in the studio, and witness the artist’s work in process. These dates and times are outlined below:

Saturday 2nd April, 3pm – 6pm
Thursday 7th April, 6pm – 8pm
Thursday 21st April, 6pm – 8pm
Thursday 28th April, 6pm – 8pm

Tyza Stewart completed a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) from Queensland College of Art in 2012. In 2013, the artist’s solo show Will You Come curated by Joel Mu was presented at 55 Sydenham Rd Marrickville NSW 2204 AU, and the publication Tyzatyzatyza was released. In 2014, Stewart undertook a four-week residency at Boxcopy, presenting Dense Plant Scenes centred on a video profile of the artist’s practice. Stewart’s work has been shown at The Hold Art Space, WitchMeat ARI, Griffith University Art Gallery, Redcliffe Art Gallery, Pseudo Space, and was included in BEAF 2013 and GOMA Q: Contemporary Queensland Art (2015). Stewart is represented by Heiser Gallery, Brisbane.
