Wo(kin) is designed as a platform to celebrate artists representing a wide array of voices and perspectives that engage with analysing and critiquing the pervading structures of the patriarchy, the arts and capitalism.
The term ‘Wo(kin)’ is inspired by the socio-political colloquial term of being ‘woke’ taken from the phrase of ‘staying awake.’ It describes the state of being engaged and responsive to the current structures and movements of the western political and social landscapes of the local, national and global situations and perspectives.
The artists included in the show present works that range across a broad and diverse selection of creative practices and give voice to ideas dealing with consumerism, body politics, environmental concerns, feminism, critique on the consumption of mainstream media, art production, race and humour.
In the climate of the current landscape of the world it is important to build communities up, support the voices that are being hurt and find real moments of action. BUSYBRICK is dedicated to providing space for the voices of the community to be heard and concerns being brought to light.
