The Footscray Art Prize is a biennial non-acquisitive visual art prize for contemporary artworks across multiple platforms and disciplines.
It contributes to Footscray’s reputation as a thriving cultural hub that supports and fosters the arts, and provides an opportunity to celebrate this artistic vibrancy and creativity.

The Footscray Art Prize has four categories:
Footscray Art Prize
- Open to Australian residents.
- Maximum of two (2) entries per entrant is permitted.
- A non-refundable entry fee payment of $30 (including GST) is applicable for each artwork entered.
- The exhibition of shortlisted works will be held at Footscray Community Arts Centre(external link).
Street Art Prize
- Open to Australian residents.
- Maximum of two (2) entries per entrant is permitted.
- Entries are also eligible for the Main Prize.
- A non-refundable entry fee payment of $30 (including GST) is applicable for each artwork entered.
- Four (4) artists will be shortlisted, and each provided with a wall in central Footscray to create their work between 20 March and 20 May 2017.
The sites are:
- Betta Electrical, 216-226 Barkly Street Footscray
- Victoria University, Building T – Footscray Nicholson Campus, Buckley Street, Footscray
- Victoria University, Building D – Footscray Nicholson Campus, Albert Street, Footscray
- One more site to be announced.
Tertiary Art Prize
- Open to Australian university and art college students.
- Maximum of two (2) entries per entrant is permitted.
- Entries are also eligible for the Main Prize.
- A non-refundable entry fee payment of $20 (including GST) is applicable for each artwork entered.
- The exhibition of shortlisted works will be held at VU at MetroWest.
Young Artists Prize
- Open to young people in Melbourne’s west.
- Maximum of one (1) entry per entrant is permitted.
- Entry is free.
- Entrants under the age of 16 must complete a
Footscray Art Prize – Parental/Guardian Consent Form.docx and return it with their artwork to the Bluestone Church Arts Space by 17 May 2017.
- The exhibition will be held at Maribyrnong City Council’s Bluestone Church Arts Space(external link).
