Alone with the Moon presents an overview of recent works on paper by Michelle Knowles. Comprising of both wall works and artist books, this exhibition explores the visual aesthetic of psychedelic art and the intimacy of the handmade.
Using gouache, acrylic paint, gel pens, felt pens, watercolour, ink and collage, these works playfully combine the gestural, abstract and the representational in a palette of bombastic colour. Rorschach patterns, kaleidoscopic designs, loose symmetry and scribbles share a two-dimensional surface with sea creatures and cosmic cats. These works draw on the artist’s varied interests in the absurd, pop culture, new age spirituality, and cats on the Internet.
The exhibition will be open for viewing from Wednesday 24 April to Sunday 28 April, 10am to 4pm (except Anzac Day).
