The exhibition Mythopoetic: women artists from India and Australia takes place across three galleries located at Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art. The work of 15 artists, including a collaborative pair, is brought together by emerging curator Marnie Dean. Mythopoetic: women artists from India and Australia will survey the way in which artists are re-picturing, re-contextualising and re-imagining the feminine. The new mythology referred to is the collective embodiment of stories, histories and images that disrupt assumptions and visual representations of the physical body, identity, gendered roles, and sexuality. Artists include Dhruvi Acharya (India), Fiona Hall (AUS), Sonia Khurana (India), Pushpamala N. (India/UK) and Sangeeta Sandrasegar (AUS).

Curator’s lecture: 18 April 2013, 2pm
Venue: QCA Lecture Theatre

Join exhibition artist/curator Marnie Dean for an in-depth talk on curating ‘Mythopoetic’ and the artworks on loan from Australian and Indian artists.

Venue: QCA campus, 226 Grey Street, South Bank, Brisbane

Join us to celebrate ‘Mythopoetic’ exhibition and the opening of Encounters:India festival, with guest speakers and a live performance by renowned Indian musician Rajesh Mehta on ‘Hybrid Trumpet’ in the QCA’s Project Gallery

Artist tour and talks: 16 May 2013, 2pm
Venue: Griffith University Art Gallery

Meet at Griffith University Art Gallery to tour all three exhibition venues with exhibiting artists Marnie Dean, Pat Hoffie, Laini Burton, Di Ball, Simone Eisler, Jill Kinnear and Ann-Marie Reaney.
