Institute of Modern Art

As part of the IMA’s ongoing commitment to Queensland experimental art practice, we will be hosting the fifth bi-annual Jeremy Hynes Award. Since 2009, the IMA has had the honour of presenting the $10,000 prize to an experimental Queensland artist, made possible by a bequest made in Jeremy Hynes’ name.

The 2016 recipient, Liam O’Brien, will present his recent video work, Possessions (2016), at the IMA. With particular interest in the construction of individuality and the ambiguities of personal freedom, O’Brien uses personal experience, intuition and theoretical texts to produce video and performance works that explore the human condition under advanced capitalism.
