In a landscape of industrial achievements and technological advances, the human cost is often high. However, this urbanisation of the natural environment yields a somewhat intriguing aesthetic to be contemplated as well as enjoyed, through a feast of colour, noise, forms and personalities anesthetising the human psyche.

My images explore the juxtapositions of chaos and productivity, poverty and wealth and harmony versus urban dissonance. It also considers the very existence of life driven by consumerism and the influence of modern pop culture. These opposing cultural nuances, mirror the Yin and Yang principals of opposing positive and negative forces that often sees fast consumption and disposable commodities playing out on the streets of China alongside pockets of isolation and quiet contemplation. This images explore sites of consumer chaos in contrast to spaces of traditional culture and tranquility.

Above all, my images convey to viewers an exploration of the Chinese culture, allowing it to be contemplated beyond singular typecasts and instead reconsidered, building on what ‘Made In China’ really means in all of its cultural, economic and historical complexities.
