Anna Carey : Mirage

Deadline:

My work explores the spatial experiences I encounter within my immediate urban environment, which is the transient city of the Gold Coast. Space is not represented as a static sight but a place to be transformed encouraging one to generate dreams. With memory recall and imagination as the only reference of permanency, I interweave model making, drawing, photography and video to create fictive architectural spaces. The model making is an exercise that maps the imaginative process rather then focusing on the finished product.

The exhibition Mirage presents a series of photographs and a video work that document the imaginative process. The models are photographed and filmed in the local natural environment. The video work slips in and out of the subtropical coastal natural environment and the fragmented urban environment. The sublime experiences of nature and the illusions within architecture is at the core of the lived experiences within this city urbanised on the edge. The video work presents an unconventional narrative to reflect the rhythm of the city. It takes you on a journey without a fixed destination, no finished space or place. Similar to the city its is never resolved and always reimagining itself.
