Can You See Me Now? interrogates the phenomena of the invisibility of women once they reach a ‘certain’ age. Feminist artist Deborah Eddy presents a celebratory warts-and-all challenge to engage viewers in what it means to live in an ageing woman’s body.
The sculptural elements in this exhibition display abstract versions of women of all shapes and sizes. Breasts, pubic hair and vulvas abound – symbols that once drew the male gaze, either wanted or unwanted.
The gaze now skims over the ageing woman, rendering her invisible.
