Emerging Brisbane based artist Claudia Greathead will present a series of new paintings in her upcoming solo exhibition, Round and Round. Painterly enigmas and strange narratives characterise her imagery, which has emerged from old and recent family photographs, travel, and her singular journey.
Round and Round refers to Greathead’s recent period of self-reflection and her use of painting as a cathartic release:
“This series stems from recent experiences and feelings about the self. By re-creating my feelings and thoughts in the process of painting, I try to alleviate feelings of anxiety and worry”
Using muted colours and ambiguous forms, these mysterious paintings portray Greathead’s unique impressions of the world intermingled with her own memories, fears and hopes.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
A graduate of Queensland College of Art in 2014, Greathead has been a finalist in the Churchie National Emerging Art Prize (2015, 2014), reached the semi-final of the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize (2016), and has established a significant presence in the Brisbane Artist Run Initiative scene. She has an upcoming solo exhibition, Wanblut, at independent contemporary art space, Metro Arts in June 2018.
