Pru Morrison and Sharon Muir

Deadline:

Artisan

Two of our community’s most skilled studio potters – Pru Morrison and Sharon Muir – will be celebrated in Artisan’s two upcoming exhibitions, Yesterday’s Favourite and Scenes for Hearts and Flowers, opening 16 June.

Yesterday’s Favourite honours the two decades of making that have made Pru Morrison’s ceramic work instantly recognisable. With strong technical ability and her trademark wit, Pru comments on Australian politics, history and familiar national identities.

Pru’s shrewd observations are balanced with humour, and an innate empathy for society’s most marginalised people.

The instant appeal of Sharon Muir’s retail ceramic collection have made her a popular Brisbane craft identity. Scenes for Hearts and Flowers profiles her distinctly different exhibition practice, where familiar bric-a-brac are reimagined into small ceramic sculptures, evoking sentimentality and wonder.

Studio partners, Pru and Sharon will explore how sharing a space influences the creative process in Stories from a Shared Studio, an In Converation event, Saturday 16 June.

Pru will also share her adaptation of the ancient terra sigillata glazing technique in a workshop on Saturday 7 July. Particpants get to try the approach on a dish made by Pru, and take it home after firing.
