Up Late: Cable Ties & The Gooch Palms

Deadline:

Gallery of Modern Art

Experience GOMA after dark at Up Late during ‘Patricia Piccinini: Curious Affection’. Enjoy live music from cutting edge performers and guest DJs in the heart of GOMA.

Melbourne-based punk band Cable Ties comprises three friends who weld punk ferocity with kraut rock and boogie, summoning frenetic lead lines tethered to a hypnotic rhythm section. Their songs form a joyous rhythmic tide from which vocalist Jenny McKechnie delivers rallying anthems. They have toured the country with Camp Cope and The Kills, performed on the stages of Meredith Music Festival and Laneway Festival 2018. Their 2017 self-titled debut album was met with ardent acclaim: “…the songs aren’t anchored by traditional musicianship, but by a surging, heaving heartbeat.” (The Big Issue)

Punk-rock duo The Gooch Palms are known for being funny and gloriously noisy, with gritty guitars and colourful costumes. Relocating from Australia to Los Angeles in 2015, they set up a record label and played more than 150 shows across the USA and Canada. ‘Introverted Extroverts’ (2016) was featured as Album of the Week on PBS FM, Radio Adelaide, in Beat Magazine and The Music. They returned in 2017 to play a string of sold-out shows in Australia.
