Sterile spaces, white walls, black doors, no people. A fluid in shiny black swashes in, slowly spreads out on the floor, swallows the white and forms into a sculptural shape. Space-grasping substances, alien, inspirited, puzzling and eerie.
Using magnets, Bernd Oppl and Bogomir Doringer form sculptural entities from iron-containing ferrofluid in miniaturised three-dimensional displays. Bodies created in analogue that – both eerie and weirdly funny – irritate our familiar perception of space.
Bernd Oppl lives and works in Vienna. Selected solo exhibitions include Intermission, Galerie Krinzinger, Vienna (2016); Keep it all Inside, Kunstraum Goethestrasse, Linz (2015); Inhabited Interioirs, Georgia Museum of Arts, USA; Drehmoment, RLB Atelier, Linz;Passages, Amstel 41, Amsterdam (2014); Raumflucht, artpartments, Vienna (2013);Constants are Changing, Neue Galerie, Innsbruck (2012); and Point of View, Kunstverein das weisse haus, Vienna (2009).
