Kinly Grey’s artistic practice is a series of experiments. Grey’s works are activated and transformed by their context: a gust of wind, the movement of the sun, or the hand of the viewer, becomes a part of the work, not a disturbance of it. Culminating in a solo exhibition at Metro gallery, Grey’s year in residence will continue the artist’s exploration of meteorological and atmospheric conditions as embodied phenomena. The residency is an opportunity for contemplative development of work that adapts to, and potentially challenges, the controlled environment of the gallery, emphasising this as a unique physical, social and atmospheric space.
About the Exhibition
Playing with scale, perception and atmospheric effects, this immersive exhibition engages the body of the viewer. Human senses are entangled with the cosmic forces, of gravity, light and celestial bodies, that shape our world. As the culmination of Grey’s year as artist-in-residence at Metro Arts, slow burn reflects the studio as a site of material research and playful exploration.
