The Third Quater

Jonathan Lightfoot is an emerging visual artist who ventures into the realms of both paper collage and sculpture.

Carefully examining the human condition through witty aphorism, Lightfoot works primarily with paper to coax those nuances that usually arise from the third party tools and materials, amplifying the variables that occur between the maker and the canvas.

“Pieces are added, shifted, flipped or discarded until I find what I am searching for.”

‘Arthritic Toads’ is a light hearted exploration into what the Artist considered his own undesirable qualities and missteps. Toads, a quintessentially Queensland icon that’s grotesque qualities are often referred to with an affectionate colloquial whimsy, have in the past ran rampant, and through the Artist’s storytelling they’re now ageing, developing arthritis and becoming easier to round up – mirroring the ageing of our modern “Australian-ness”.
