Deeper Conversations: Judy Watson and Katina Davidson
May 1, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Join Brisbane-based artist Judy Watson as she speaks about her practice in conversation with Katina Davidson Assistant Curator, Indigenous Australian Art, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art.
Judy Watson’s matrilineal family is from Waanyi country in Northwest Queensland and her practice which includes painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture and video is inspired by Aboriginal history and culture. Watson is often concerned with collective memory and unearthing hidden histories of Indigenous Australians. Watson’s evocative etchings ‘swimming in blood’, ‘drowning in language’ and ‘consumed by fire’ are currently showing in ‘Women’s Work from the Collection’.
Katina Davidson is Assistant Curator, Indigenous Australian Art, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art. Katina identifies as a descendant of the Purga Mission, Queensland with cultural connections to the Kullilli and Yuggera people, and maternal non-Indigenous Australian heritage. She is one of the founding members of BlakLash Collective in Brisbane.
Deeper Conversations are proudly presented with the generous support of Chris Harris from Ord Minnett, Buderim.
