luciana smith: mortadella moments
luciana smith is a sydney-based artist. drawing from her own observations and a range of pop culture and internet references, she twists her subjects into a fictional world that exists between the real and imagined. her colourful scenes create a new and idiosyncratic narrative for human behaviour and environments, through painting she notes, and zooms in on, the humour of day-to-day life. her work is a collection of opportunistic snapshots that recontextualise their subjects by marrying candid, fleeting gestures with found imagery. smith has exhibited at the arts inn florence, florence; saint cloche gallery, sydney; and dungog contemporary, dungog. she was a finalist in the waverley art prize in 2017 and 2018. her work is held in private collections in australia and internationally.
