Looking for people who are interested in organising an ari. We think it would probably be a good idea for some other people with more energy to take over organising the gallery. We are continuing to rent the property and the workshop and studios will continue to be occupied and not accessible to public. Because of this we’ll need to have a good ongoing working relationship.
What would be involved:
• Organising exhibitions & call outs
• Helping install / deinstall if necessary
• Setting up for openings
• Cleaning and maintaining gallery (wall maintenance and repairs etc.)
• Online jobs (making events, mailing list info etc.)
What we can offer:
• A rent free space
• Continued basic documentation of the shows. We are an unfunded space and haven’t been able to pay artists or organisers. Offering rudimentary documentation of the shows is one non-monetary form of exchange we can offer to artists who work in the space.
What we would expect:
• Monthly, bi-monthly public use of the space
• For people to respect the other uses of the building and be conscientious of the occupants and neighbours.
• We will still be liable for things that happen on the property. We have some restrictions about the use of the space re: noise, construction & alcohol that are probably easier to have a talk about in person.
• We think keeping the name ‘Wreckers’ would be easy and consistent, but once it’s your baby you can take it where you want to go.
• If we’re still renting the space in 2 years, we think it would be healthy to regularly rotate the organisers of the gallery.
We’ve had a process of learning and didn’t always get things right the first time. We’re happy to share experiences and help with any of the pitfalls. We really value transparent models of organisations and would be looking for some organisers who are able to make ethical and considered selection of shows.
