GOMA Talks: The Future of Protest

Deadline:

Gallery of Modern Art (Online)

In the age of COVID-19, is it now more than ever important to have the right to protest?
GOMA Talks returns during the Children’s Art Centre exhibition ‘Now is the Time’, for a virtual session exploring the future of protest. Hear from special guests as they consider whether a global pandemic and social distancing measures will impact on our ability to stand together in protest. Should digital platforms be considered the future of protest, or is social media activism simply performative?
Hosted by Paul Barclay, ABC Radio National’s Big Ideas.
Guests include:
• Larissa Baldwin – First Nations Justice Campaign Director, GetUp
• Bridget Burton – Director of Human Rights and Civil Law Practice, Caxton Legal Centre
• Professor Katharine Gelber – Head of School, Political Science and International Studies, University of Queensland
• Jonathan Sri – Councillor of Gabba ward, Brisbane City
• Performance: Parker Renshaw – Young activist
