Monica Rohan’s work explores the inundation of contradictions and paradoxes that complicate emotions, through the pictorial language of contemporary painting. She uses herself as the subject and the driving force behind her works. She explores the clash between what is real and what is simulated and how this affects general thought processes and instincts, placing perceptions of reality in doubt. Rohan has created an altered perspective of reality drawing from personal emotional metaphors in response to real world experiences. In effect, her paintings question the act of being emotionally conscious, and how one views themselves from the perspective of this intense self-awareness.
