Uproar- Addressing the important issue of sexual violence towards women with the goal of promoting community awareness.

UPROAR: Break the Silence on Sexual Violence. The culture of silencing survivors contributes to the impact of the abuse on women’s lives. Shutting survivors down can leave women feeling guilt, shame, isolation, confusion, and doubt and not being clear about who is to blame. For many survivors this silence and secrecy can continue long after the abuse has ended.
Uproar encourages women to release their creativity and find their voice in art.

UPROAR is a riot full of rebellion, acts of resistance, passion and raw emotion. Expressing these feelings through art can open a different pathway to express emotions in a safe and healthy format – without the silencing and shame that can be attached to verbalizing and explaining events.

Society has a lot of strong messages about what emotions are appropriate for women to exhibit – Presenting women’s artwork through a public exhibition works to validate how we feel about sexual violence – and normalize our feelings of anger, grief, fear, shame righteousness and empowerment and expose the injustice of silencing survivors.
