Rose Manning: Microdosing Sadness

Deadline:

April 21
Wreckers Artspace
Microdosing Sadness is an exploration of the expression of uncomfortable emotions within the public sphere. Drawing on her personal experience of sudden grief last year, Rose utilised images and words that were shared within that time to delve into the intricacies of sharing emotions in public versus private spaces. The exhibition prompts us to consider when vulnerability transcends its function as a means of connection with others, and instead becomes a potential liability for the self.
Rose Manning is a text-based artist working in Meanjin. As a queer woman navigating public and private spaces, Rose’s practice explores the complex terrain of emotions. Through her work, which she describes as ‘love letters’ she grapples with the challenge of expressing vulnerability. Rose also delves into the simultaneous feelings of connection and disconnection she experiences in relation to the people and spaces in her life. Utilising painting, she crafts confessional works that aim to comfortably express the full spectrum of her emotions while creating a sense of resonance with the world she has found herself in.
Event: 21st April, 6:00 – 9:00pm
