The Asia Pacific Architecture Festival (APAF) returns to Brisbane from 9 to 23 June 2023 in a collaboration between founding partners Architecture Media and State Library of Queensland.

APAF is a celebration of architecture and design in the Asia Pacific region.

The festival is renowned for delivering a program that includes exhibitions, installations, symposia, lectures and workshops that promote architecture and design’s pivotal role in our culture, sustainability and economy.

Now in its eighth year, the festival will return to its regular base in Brisbane with satellite events planned in Queensland’s regions. In addition to in-person events, patrons will also have the opportunity to attend online events.

State Librarian and CEO Vicki McDonald AM FALIA says that good architecture and design contributes to the wellbeing of our communities in many ways.

“From our award-winning South Bank building to our ground-breaking Hot Modernism exhibition in 2014, from our enduring partnership with Architecture Media to our future-focused Purpose Built architecture exhibition later this year, the importance of architecture to the quality of people’s lives is embedded in State Library’s DNA.

“APAF is deeply local with a global outlook, and hosting events in Brisbane, regional Queensland, overseas and online means that even more people will engage with the festival this year.”

Architecture Media Editorial Director Katelin Butler says the festival explores and celebrates the ways design can really make a difference.

“Architecture has a vital role to play in initiating new ways to deepen cultural understanding, alleviate environmental destruction, reconsider resource management practises and respond to other big-picture issues,” Ms Butler says.

“We want to highlight the innovative thinking and transformative projects by the countries, cities and people of the Asia Pacific region.”
