Remnants | Impressions continues artist Louis Lim’s interest in the diversity of the human condition, through non-fictional visual storytelling and conceptual photographic portraits.  Remnants | Impressions consists of a series of framed photographs of reclaimed polaroid negatives found by the artist and laboriously brought back to life through a tedious process of bleaching, washing and drying.

As Lim tries to extract an image from the negatives he finds himself constructing stories to piece together any plausible recollection he might have. Like memories, these fragile photographic emulsions disintegrate while attempting to retrieve any evidence of the captured moment. What is left behind are the visual remnants and impressions for the viewer to fill in the gaps and create their own memories.

Lim’s work has been exhibited across Australia and presented internationally. He was awarded the Queensland Festival of Photography Portrait Prize in 2012 and was shortlisted as a finalist in the 2017 Churchie National Emerging Art Prize, the 2016 Toowoomba Biennial Emerging Artist Award, the 2015 Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award, and the 2015 Head On Portrait Prize.
