The Hold Artspace warmly invites you to the opening of two concurrent exhibitions on Friday the 7th of March from 6-9pm; A Knife and a Torch and Translations.A Knife and a Torch is an exhibition of work created by Kay Lawrence, Kat Sawyer & Vanessa Stanley while on location at Sanda Studio, Aimoto, Japan, created with awareness and experience of the local culture and terrain. These works made from repetitive habits show the process of becoming familiar with places and sites, broaching themes of the everyday, the body, the natural world, transformation and interpersonal exchangesTranslations will feature new work by Bridie Gillman, whose practice is concerned with translating cross-cultural experiences. Drawing from her background living in both Australia and Indonesia, this body of work continues her exploration into how materials can elicit memory, articulating experiences of awkwardness and with the unknown. In her constructions only fragments of information are provided, inviting the possibility of new meanings and relationships.The exhibitions will continue until the 15th of March.
Artist talks will be held on Wednesday the 12th of March from 6-8pm
