Australian Cinémathèque: January Screenings

Deadline:

Gallery of Modern Art

The Australian Cinémathèque at GOMA presents an ongoing program of film and video that you’re unlikely to see elsewhere. With screenings on Wednesday and Friday evenings, and matinees on Saturdays and Sundays, the program offers a rich and diverse experience of the moving image.

Screening in January is Perceptions of Light, accompanying the exhibition Olafur Eliasson: Presence, alongside Contraptions—a program exploring mad inventors and mechanical mayhem—and more. The Cinémathèque showcases influential filmmakers and international cinema, rare 35mm prints, recent restorations, silent films with live musical accompaniment, and regular In Conversation events with film creatives.

Most screenings are free. For ticketed programs, the Cinémathèque Box Office opens one hour prior to screenings, with snacks and refreshments available to purchase and take into the cinema. As no commercial trailers are screened, audiences are encouraged to arrive early to enter and find seating.

QAGOMA is the only Australian art gallery with purpose-built facilities dedicated to film and the moving image. The Australian Cinémathèque is an Associate Member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), connecting it to the world’s leading film preservation and exhibition institutions.
