Between the Threads brings together eight artists whose practices find common ground in fibre, fabric, and material process while remaining distinct in vision, method, and cultural origin. Featuring artists from Australia and overseas, the exhibition celebrates textile art as one of the most dynamic and expressive contemporary art forms.
Spanning weaving, stitching, soft sculpture, and experimental textile techniques, the exhibition explores themes of storytelling, identity, memory, place, and transformation. The works blur traditional boundaries between art, craft, design, and installation, demonstrating the versatility and conceptual depth of contemporary textile practice.
Visitors will encounter a rich variety of approaches, including fabric collage portraits, Japanese textile traditions, silk ink works, biochrome prints on chiffon, spiritual totem dolls, feltmaking, contemporary quilting, bojagi, and mixed-media works reflecting on home and belonging.
Through its diverse range of materials and methods, Between the Threads invites audiences to experience the tactile beauty and creative possibilities of textile art while reflecting on the enduring power of handmade processes.
