US artist and technologist Mindy Seu brings her acclaimed participatory lecture-performance A Sexual History of the Internet to Brisbane following presentations across North America, Asia and Europe.
Described by the LA Times as “the internet’s sexual historian”, Seu explores the intertwined histories of digital technology and sexuality through a curated collection of internet lore, historical anecdotes, artworks and archival material. Presented through Instagram Stories, the performance transforms the audience into active participants, with attendees reading from a shared script on their mobile devices to create a collective, polyvocal lecture experience.
A Sexual History of the Internet was commissioned by Rhizome, premiered at New York’s New Museum and follows Seu’s acclaimed publication Cyberfeminism Index. Curated by Madeline Brewer and Odette Miller, the event is presented in partnership with James St.
Please note that attendees require a charged mobile device with Instagram installed and a stable internet connection. Recommended for audiences aged 18+.
