The Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship 2026, administered by the Art Gallery of New South Wales, is now accepting applications from emerging Australian artists aged 20 to 30 with an established body of work.
Established in memory of Brett Whiteley, the scholarship supports excellence in painting while providing significant career development opportunities through funded residencies in Australia and overseas.
Major Scholarship
- $50,000
- Three-month residency at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris
- Additional three months of independent travel throughout Europe
Five Residency Scholarships
- $10,000 each
- Two-week residency at Shark Island Kangaroo Valley, NSW
- Residency includes a curated professional development program presented by the Brett Whiteley Studio.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be aged 20–30 years on the closing date.
- Have been an Australian citizen for at least two years.
- Be living in Australia during the application and announcement period.
- Have an established body of work.
Submission Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Images of 10 artworks
- At least five must be paintings
- Nominate one painting (maximum 100 × 150 cm) for judging.
- All submitted works must have been created between 30 July 2025 and 28 July 2026.
