Jorge Mariño Brito: These, I, Singing in Spring

Deadline:

14 July
-
August 15
Mitchell Fine Art

Jorge Mariño Brito was born in Cuba and lives and works in Brisbane. He graduated from the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane in 2024.

Mariño Brito’s artistic practice encompasses painting, papermaking and printmaking. With a background in psychiatry, his artwork combines sensitive depiction of human relationships with a love for painterly materials.

His incomplete shapes and ambiguous field of his paintings seek to create a sense of intimacy between the subjects and with the viewer allowing the eye to move freely around the simultaneously energetic and delicate fields.

In 2023 he was awarded the Iain Turnbull Award from Griffith University Queensland.

Jorge Mariño Brito has participated in exhibitions in Perth, Sydney, Bundaberg and Brisbane; and has work in permanent collections at the Griffith University Art Museum (GUAM) and the State Library of Queensland.

In 2025 Jorge was selected as a finalist in the Brisbane Portrait Prize and the Churchie Emerging Art Prize in Brisbane.

Opening Event: Friday 17 July, 6 – 8pm

Artist Talk: Saturday 18 July, 4 – 5pm
In conversation with Director of Griffith University Art Museum, Carrie McCarthy.
