Memories of Time is a solo exhibition by Sang Ju Lee, presenting work developed during the artist’s six-month exchange at Seoul National University in 2025.
Working with silk and traditional Korean Hanji (mulberry paper), Lee explores Korean painting techniques while using these historic materials as vessels for personal memory, cultural identity and lived experience.
At the heart of the exhibition is the recurring motif of the tied string, inspired by the rope pattern found on a Baekja cheolhwa jar. The motif represents aspects of identity shaped by birth, history and circumstance, extending across mapped locations to create a conceptual landscape connecting place, memory and time.
Through layered imagery and material traditions, Memories of Time examines how identity is continually formed through movement, cultural inheritance and the relationships between home, geography and personal history.
A celebration event will be held on 23 July, inviting visitors to meet the artist and experience the exhibition.
