Join Bowie Solutions for a hands-on Torres Strait Islander coconut leaf weaving experience at Aboriginal Art Co. Participants will learn about the cultural significance of coconut leaves and their traditional use in practical and playful objects including baskets, mats, fans and toys. Using fresh, hand-harvested coconut leaves, participants will learn foundation weaving skills and create their own woven creations, with options including a fish, grasshopper, windmill and ball.
The workshop will also explore cultural knowledge, sustainability and storytelling through conversation and hands-on making. All materials are supplied and no previous experience is required.
