EDWINA CORLETTE GALLERY presents JACQUI STOCKDALE In Conversation with an Introduction by MARIAN DREW

RSVP: gallery@edwinacorlette.com

Jacqui Stockdale is highly regarded for her practice as a painter, drawer and photographer and has been recognised in major awards, prizes and institutional exhibitions. Stockdale’s work is both exuberant and serious. She sets up theatrical scenes using carnival masks, costumes and objects collected from her travels to create illuminations and unexpected relationships that comment on the complexity of human emotions and cultural lineage. Her practice explores the presence of objects that weave between history, folklore and the carnivalesque.

Stockdale won the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize 2012 and is a past winner of the Belle Arti Prize and the Hutchins Art Prize. She has been a finalist in awards including the National Artists´ Self-Portrait Prize, Geelong Contemporary Art Prize, Olive Cotton Award for Photographic Portraiture and the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award. A documentary about Stockdale’s practice, ‘Heart’, won ‘Best Documentary’ at the 2008 Melbourne International Film Festival.
