EXHIBITION PROGRAM

Artists/curators are encouraged to propose well considered exhibitions, performances and happenings. We are looking for artists/curators who can provide evidence of previous work that is conceptually sound and visually engaging as well as proposals that are clear, thoughtful and ambitious. Preference will be given to proposals that work directly with consideration of and in response to the physical gallery space. Curators will be responsible for providing a piece of writing on the exhibition to be published on our online archive as part of our Writers Program (Artists will be allocated a writer who will be in contact in the lead up to their exhibition). All artists/curators are responsible for equally sharing the minding of the gallery during opening hours Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays.

In November 2014, Archive_ launched a new initiative, DARK_ located in the newly acquired second space behind, and physically accessed through, Archive_. The gallery space is ideal for and focussed towards providing an alternative project space for new media and light based works and installations that require a darkened space. DARK_ exhibitions will run concurrent with front space exhibitions, sharing opening nights on Wednesdays 6-8pm and will offer artists the same format, including exhibition documentation, an essay by one of our Writers Program contributors and inclusion on our online archive.

WRITERS PROGRAM

Writers are encouraged to communicate a strong desire for directly engaging with artists and their work. The aim of the Writers Program is to advocate the talents of local emerging arts writers, provide opportunities for arts writers to actively participate in current discussion regarding contemporary art practice as well as provide a platform for in-depth and informative exchanges between artists and viewers for which the writer will facilitate.

The program is structured in such a way that after consideration of each writer’s area of interest, each are then allocated an exhibition to write about. How the piece of writing materialises is up to the writer and can take the form of interview, essay, post exhibition review or as an experimental piece of writing, so long as it directly addresses the exhibition and work of the artist/s. We also strongly encourage the writer to get in contact with the artist/s to discuss their work and this may take place for example as a studio visit, during install, over coffee, bus ride or whatever suits you both.
