‘Valdetta’ is an exploration of Perkins’ genealogy that applies fiction as a method to autobiographical fact in order to examine the processes of self-narrativisation through a suite of autofictive painted, sculptural, text and video works.
Centred on a great great uncle named after his father and his father’s father, the exhibition explores themes of inheritance, recursion and individuation in the passage of a single name — Joseph Valdetta — across generations and across continents.
