Adam Pyett: Recent Works

Deadline:

Jan Murphy Gallery

Australian painter Adam Pyett creates beautifully toned still lifes and landscapes that reveal his interest in surface and colour. In late 2018, a series of his recent works will be on display at Jan Murphy Gallery for his first solo exhibition outside of his native Victoria.

There is a tough structure and playful approach to the still lifes and landscapes that underpin Adam Pyett’s paintings. An early interest in abstraction remains evident across his now recognisable subject matter with strong compositional elements and tightly developed imagery. Indigenous flora and plant life feature heavily in his works representing his affection for our distinct environment, and both the beauty, and mystery, that this singular terrain evokes. Strongly committed to the practice and process of painting, his repeated examination of specific subject matter sees the artist strive to uncover the complexities of painting.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Pyett’s work has been recognised with a solo survey, Still Life Painting at Geelong Gallery (2017), inclusion in Ballarat Art Gallery’s Romancing the Skull (2017) and Painting More Painting at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne (2016). His work is part of the collections of the National Gallery of Victoria, Monash University Museum of Art, and Artbank, in addition to private collections in Australia and the USA.
