The Proliferation of Nows explores the transportive capabilities of outdoor streaming webcams, not only in regard to vicarious travel but also in relation to how spaces of the imagination and the virtual can overlap and interweave. Alannah Gunter’s photomedia works and installations engage with the formal characteristics of the webcam’s relayed digital images and investigate the aesthetic experiences that one undergoes as their consciousness shifts between physical, virtual and psychological spaces. The exhibition suggests that these experiences offer viewers a new form of the sublime, one that is appropriate for our digital age.
