Time Honoured explores how homes and architecture in Brisbane’s local suburbs hold collective memories and nostalgia. Alexandra Matthews considers the relationship between human memory and place, with heritage homes, timber walls and corrugated iron roofs becoming repositories for the city’s stories.
The exhibition focuses particularly on the suburbs of Paddington and Red Hill, featuring recognisable local businesses and architecture rendered with Matthews’ characteristic attention to detail.
The exhibition also marks the launch of Matthews’ new art book, The Hidden Splendour of The Familiar. A signed copy can be purchased from the artist, or a complimentary copy is available with the purchase of an artwork.
