Small Object Spaces: Progressions is the second iteration of artisan’s exhibition series exploring intimacy, tactility and the quiet presence of everyday materials. The series brings together Queensland-based artists working across object-based practices, inviting audiences to slow down and focus on crafted detail and process.
This exhibition features Townsville-based silversmith Alison McDonald and her metal small objects, inspired by Annie Slade’s 1884 collection held within the British Marine Algae Collection at Special Collections. McDonald’s works respond to the organic textures and patterns of seaweed, moss, lichen and rock, reshaping metal into intricate forms using techniques including hand-raised copper, chasing and repoussé.
Featured work Plate 23 (ii) Griffithsia Corallina vessel (2026) was the recipient of the 2025 Queensland Regional Arts Momentum Award and was previously exhibited as part of the Flying Arts Alliance QRAA Awarded Progressions Solo Exhibition.
