Anastasia Booth: Summer Residency

Deadline:

Boxcopy ARI

Brisbane-based artist Anastasia Booth is undertaking the 2015 Summer Residency at Boxcopy, utilising the gallery as a studio space, to create a new body of work exploring specific mythological figures and contemporary rituals, and themes of volition, desire, pleasure and disillusionment.

Anastasia works across sculpture, moving image, photography and poetry. Her practice playfully interrogates the portrayal of women’s desire in cultural production and symbolic discourse, with a particular focus on the representation of fetishism. Employing strategies of subversion, abstraction and appropriation, her works draw influence from contemporary subcultures, art history and mythology. By reconstructing these visual codes through the formal and theoretical language of artistic practice, her works speak to the problematic, humorous and often paradoxical relationship between depictions of the feminine and women’s desire and agency.

Anastasia Booth and Boxcopy invite you to join us for a poetry event on Valentine’s Day, February 14th at 2:00pm, exploring the intimacy of spoken word and the sensual experience of text and personal narrative, as ‘couples’ perform poetry together.

Exhibition Dates : 31st January – 7th March
