Melancholy and the Memorial presents a body of work created as part of Macindoe’s practice-led Master of Fine Arts. Using multi-channel text and video installations, Macindoe’s work acts as a response to traditional forms of language and its limitations in representing loss. The practice aims to reframe the dialogue around public expressions of grief and melancholy, and prompt reflection on art’s potential to share these usually private affectual experiences.

Annie Macindoe is a Brisbane-based artist who works primarily with text and multi-channel video installation. Her practice is concerned with how the conventions of public discourse often dictate that expressions of personal trauma are considered strictly private affairs. Her practice aims to critically and creatively explore how these intimate experiences and thoughts can be expressed through contemporary art. Macindoe draws on her own fragmented memories of loss, and poetically reimagines them through word, image and sound.

In 2015, Macindoe completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Art) with first class Honours at Queensland University of Technology, and is currently undertaking a Master of Fine Arts.
